police stress, taking into account that previous studies have not given any attention to
personality traits as potential predictors of police stress. This study mainly concentrated
on 600 police constables form Tamilnadu, India. Structured questionnaires are used for
data collection. This structured questionnaires includes demographic details of the
police constables, NEO-PI-R questionnaires (NEO FFI, 60 items developed by Costa
and McCrae, 1999), and Police stress inventory (PSI, 44 items developed by Pienaar and
Rothmann, 2006). Descriptive statistics used to find mean, standard deviation and
frequency for independent and dependant variables. Pearson correlation used to identify
the relation between the variables. Regression analysis is used to identify the strength of
the relation between personality traits and occupational stress. Chi square test used to
identify the significant relations between demographic profiles and occupational stress,
personality traits. This study aims to find out the relation between personality traits and
occupational stress among the Tamilnadu police constables. It also helps, how
personality traits can be used to generate effective stress coping strategies. | Keywords : | | |
