One core value is obviously the economic one, that is, business is expected to be profitable and to make money for the owners, shareholders, and investors. Today, moreover, business must deal with another value – the expectation that business, as it grows and especially once it attains a certain size, wealth, and prominence, be “socially responsible.” Business houses all over the world are increasing in realizing their stake in the society and engaging in various social and environmental activities. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) holds a very important place in the development scenario of the world today and can pose as an alternative tool for sustainable development. As companies have shown great concerns for their immediate community and the stakeholders, it can be safely concluded that much of the fate of society lies in the hands of the corporates.
